THIS paper reviews recent research and recommen dations concerned with the prevention of smoking among schoolchildren, including the latest findings from the Health Education Authority's Teenage Health and Lifestyles survey, carried out in England in 1989. This paper also outlines effective strategies based on the literature reviewed.
