Abstract
HEALTH Education Officers constantly assess the pro grammes under their control though they may not call the process 'evaluation'. They gauge the rate of progress of a new programme, appraise personnel performance, esti mate the effectiveness of a particular technique, look at other programmes and com pare the results. This routine day-to-day process may not suffice, particularly now when we are in an era of account ability. As there are no current reviews on evaluation generally available, my brief is to review the current con cepts about evaluation and suggest some guidelines which Health Education Officers could apply.
