Abstract
The purpose of this article is to provide a road map for health communication research in Africa. In the process, the author examines some of the theoretical constraints that impede health communication research in Africa. The discussion focuses on two key proposals for research: developing appropriate research methodology for health communication research; and creating evaluation tools that would enable assessment of health communication campaigns at three stages - planning, program operations and program outcomes. Additionally, the author recommends some specific ethical standards that should guide responsible health communication research in Africa.
