Special educators have been criticized for focusing strong intervention procedures such as isolation or punishment on children who have been labeled deviant or defective. Suggested improvements in procedures are discussed and related to a revision of a typical model for educational intervention. The revised model requires more attention to inter interpersonal factors and the negotiation and justification of intervention procedures and objectives.
