The newest weapon in antiabortion activists' arsenal is the malpractice suit. Antiabortion activists are encouraging women to sue doctors who performed abortions on them for malpractice and emotional distress. While no one knows exactly how many of these cases are currently pending, a 1994 seminar on abortion malpractice sponsored by Life Dynamics, Inc. drew 125 people. Even if the suits are not successful, doctors say the nuisance value and rise in their insurance premiums that result can have a significant impact. See LewinTamar, “Latest Tactic Against Abortion: Accusing Doctors of Malpractice,”New York Times, Apr. 9, 1995, at A1.
