Abstract
The aim of this paper is to bring together various works on concentrically located rotating shaft seals which utilise electro-structured fluid sealant, in order to produce a generalised approach to their design, thus resolving seemingly incompatible reports on the effects of rotational speed on sealing capabilities. In turn, the results from these works are reviewed, a viscoplastic analysis of the 2-D problem is presented and the effects on leakage rate of radius ratio, rotational speed and axial pressure gradient as they interact with fluid properties are illustrated.
