Abstract
Introduction:
A novel method for making a portable laparoscopic simulator using a Webcam, an old laptop, and a skirt hanger. The acquisition of minimal access skills through the use of simulation is well documented. 1 –3 However, access to these simulators in the home is limited by their bulky nature, expense to purchase, or the time required to build from scratch. I describe a novel way to construct a portable laparoscopic simulator in less than 10 minutes.
Materials and Methods:
One skirt hanger; one length of string; one Webcam (preferably high definition); one laptop; 1 hack saw; one pair of scissors; two minimal access cannulas. Remove the central hook from a standard skirt hanger using a hack saw. Tie two cannulas to either end of the skirt hanger. Attach the skirt hanger to the upright screen of the laptop. Affix the Webcam to the central portion of the hanger facing toward the work area and activate a video program on the laptop.

Results:
The resulting model can be used to perform tasks such as knot tying and cube stacking.
Discussion:
The ability to practice regularly is an important factor in acquiring the technical ability to perform minimal access surgery. Due to its cheap and simple manufacture, it is my belief that this simulator could encourage the increased use of surgical simulation by trainee surgeons.
