Abstract
Introduction:
A urologist may be consulted in cases that do not strictly pertain to urology simply to help surgically because of familiarity with pelvic and retroperitoneal anatomy. This video demonstrates the effectiveness of using urologic technique to treat neurosurgical tumors.
Materials and Methods:
This video demonstrates two separate neural tumors, one in the retroperitoneum and one deep in the pelvis, that were treated by urologic transperitoneal laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic approaches. The cases are narrated in a step-by-step fashion so that the sequence of dissection is clearly depicted. The video includes the relevant preoperative imaging.
Results and Conclusions:
The video clearly demonstrates two surgical cases of neural tumors that have been resected with a minimally invasive approach. Utilizing conventional urologic laparoscopic and robotic techniques, a urologist may contribute care in the surgical treatment of diseases that cross beyond the boundaries and confines of urologic surgery.
