Abstract
The initial method for performing a laparoscopic nephrectomy is demonstrated in a pig. The procedure consists of using clips to take both the renal artery and the renal vein. The kidney is entrapped in a sack with a drawstring. The latter is then pulled out via one of the 12-mm port sites, after which the contents of the sack are morcellated using a high-speed electrical tissue morcellator, thereby emptying the sack so, that it can be removed from the abdomen.
