Abstract
Topical glucocorticosteroids may impair barrier function of the skin and may theoretically interfere with sweat gland function. We studied the effect of a 2-week application regimen of clobetasol 17-dipropionate 0.05% cream on skin water barrier function and methacholine-induced sweating. No decreased water loss was observed in the corticoid treated skin after methacholine stimulation. A topically applied corticoid in a short duration application regimen probably does not interfere with sweat production, but may interfere with the skin barrier.
