Abstract
A 25-year-old woman worked in eyeglass lens manufacturing for 6 years. Shortly after she began working in an area where lenses were cleaned with trichloroethane (TCE) she developed hives on exposed areas. This occurred only at work. Routine patch testing was negative, but patch testing for immediate hypersensitivity (contact urticaria) to TCE was positive. The changing of her job has resulted in freedom from urticaria.
