Abstract
Persulfate bleach Tccelerator (PBA-1), an isothiouronium salt, is used in some movie film laboratories. In 1982, it was described as a potent contact allergen. Chemical analysis regarding purity has now been performed by thin layer chromatography, 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance, and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. PBA-1 was found to be pure, but contaminated with traces of thiourea. Serial dilution tests in four cases with petrolatum and water as vehicles for PBA-1 showed good agreement. Patch testing with thiourea was negative.
