Abstract

ALA Mission: ALA exists to advance the science and education of laboratory automation by encouraging the study, advancing the science, and improving the practice of automation in the laboratory.
As I end my term as ALA president, I am proud to say that 2007 was another year of great achievement for our organization. Dynamic new programs and services were added to the growing menu of ALA member benefits, including most notably the ALA Spotlight Series, ALA Innovation AveNEW agreements with BioAlps and DECHEMA, ALA Short Courses at related industry events, the ALA Student Committee, and more.
The strategic plan that was launched by the ALA Board of Directors in 2005 continued to provide a clear path for progress, and has been carefully reconsidered and refined to guide ALA leaders through the next 3 years. This continuity of thought and planning is in itself one of ALA's greatest achievements in 2007.
Ultimately, of course, ALA's strategic plan speaks to the ALA mission, but it also embraces a series of defined core values and behavioral values. These guiding principles provide thoughtful parameters for ALA board, volunteers, and staff members as they address the goals and priorities established by the strategic plan. They also express the spirit with which ALA was founded and continues to thrive.

The updated document will be posted in February 2008 after final review and formal approval at the ALA Board of Directors meeting in January 28. In the meantime, let me say that it has been my honor to serve as your president.
Ich wünsche Ihnen ein glückliches und Erfolgreiches Neues Jahr,
