The main issue of this article is which role the Indonesian press played in the image- building of The Netherlands in the period between November 1991 and December 1992. In answering this question this research shall dwell on the Indonesian press system under "New Order" government, give an overview of the images of The Netherlands that were found in the analysis of the Indonesian national press, and it will explain whose interests are served by the dissemination of these images.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the impact of Saudi Arabian media in setting the intrapersonal, interpersonal and international agenda for the civil servant employees in Riyadh, the capital city. Al-Riyadh and Al-Sharq Al-Awsat were selected for analysis as they were reported to be the most popular Arabic language newspapers in Riyadh. In addition, the two television channels in Saudi Arabia were also examined for their agenda- setting effects. The results of our study indicated that while the mass media were not successful in influencing the intrapersonal and interpersonal agendas of the public, they were very effective in influencing the salience of issues in the public's international agenda. The crosslagged correlations showed that the direction of influence was from the mass media to the public and not vice-versa. The findings of this study have important implications for the agenda-setting functions and impact of the media in countries with a tightly controlled information processing and disseminating system. It is hoped that testing the agenda-setting effects in Saudi Arabia may suggest some generalities that may be relevant to other countries in the Third World with similar socio-political systems.

This case study seeks to identify and explain the ideological diversity of two Hong Kong TV dramas produced by public and commercial television respectively. Textual analyses show that the commercial drama can be classified as "choric drama" which resonates with mainstream ideology, while the public drama can be called "lyric drama" which negotiates with the establishment. In the production context of commercial TV, the organizational schema of commercialism, working together with popular aesthetics and feedback system of mass rating, create an unobtrusive reference framework which favors creative options in the choric mode. In public TV, the organizational schema of non-commercialism, working together with elitist aesthetics and feedback system of critical review, creates an reference framework which favors creative options in the lyric mode.

One of the criticisms made in the 1970s of the media in the English-speaking Caribbean was that, even when given the opportunity to do so, they did not report on the region's advances, or development. This criticism is significant in light of the position taken by Caribbean and other developing countries on the New World Information Orderdebate of the 1970s. This study content analyzed news stories submitted to CNN World Report by broadcast stations of the Caribbean to determine whether the criticism made of the Caribbean media in the 1970s still have relevance. Further, the study suggests new ways to define "development news", and challenges previous definitions as being too narrow. The authors found that a large proportion of the Caribbean story, as told on World Report, comprised development news.
