Abstract
At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana, Slovenia, problem-based learning is used in a series of exercises in the ‘Electrical power networks’ course, which is part of the four-year professionally oriented electrical power engineering programme. Students, divided into groups of six to eight, must design and analyse a small middle-voltage distribution network. First, they need to evaluate the initial design through manual calculations, then with load flow calculation software as well. Finally the results of the calculations are verified with the measurements on a network model. The problem-based learning approach proved a very efficient method, which students readily accepted.
