Abstract
Serial measurement of blood rheology is an important part of the assessment of rheological therapy in clinical trials. A nomogram can be used to calculate the number of patients and matched controls required if a trial is to have the statistical power to show a significant difference in rheological tests. This calculation requires prior knowledge of the precision of the test and of the biological variability of the rheological measurement within the patient group.
