Abstract
This report provides a description of a coiled capillary viscometer with a continuously varying pressure head and the theory behind its operation. Flow curves are presented for whole bovine blood and aqueous silica suspensions. The data are compared with results from a true bore capillary viscometer as well as with the generalized friction factor correlation of Metzner and Reed. Favorable results were obtained for a shear stress range from 0.1 to 16 dyn/cm2.
