Abstract
A cone and plate viscometer is described, together with notes on the calibration, linearity and general performance of this instrument with Newtonian fluids and blood. The influence of edge effects is minimised by the use of a guard ring, and automatic recording of shear stress obtained at a continuous range of shear rates from 0.1 to 40 sec−1 is possible.
