Abstract
A series of new potentially anti-microbial 1-[4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-ones was synthesised by condensation of various substituted benzaldehydes with 1-[4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]ethanone, which was itself prepared by N-arylation of imidazole with p-haloacetophenones, using copper iodide and 1,3-di(pyridin-2-yl)propane-1,3-dione as a catalyst. All the synthesised compounds were subjected to preliminary evaluation for their anti-leishmanial and anti-fungal activities. Some of the synthesised compounds showed significant activities.
