Abstract
An efficient synthesis of apigenin using 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene and anisaldehyde as starting materials is described, involving Friedel–Crafts acylation, selective demethylation, cyclisation, and demethylation. This transformation features a new method for the deprotection of methyl ethers. The overall yields reached approximately 55%.
