Abstract
An efficient cross-aldol reaction catalysed by L-proline in PBS-buffer SDS aqueous media provides a direct route to transform 2-chloroquinoline to 2-quinolone. The crystal structure of rac-(1S,1R)-3-[1-hydroxy-3-oxo-3-(4-methylphenylpropyl)-quinolin-2(1H)-one consists of molecules linked via N1-H1···O2i and O1-H1A···O3ii hydrogen bonding interactions (i: -x+2, y-1/2, -z+1/2; ii: -x+2, y+1/2, -z+1/2), forming infinite zigzag ribbons with graph set R22(8) along the b axis. The three-dimensional network is obtained through additional C–H···π and π···π (quinolone) interactions.
