Binuclear ruthenium(II) complexes of binucleating amide ligands (L1–L5), obtained by the reaction of pyridine-2-carboxylic acid with aromatic and aliphatic diamines, have been prepared by the reaction of one equivalent amide ligand with two equivalents of [Ru(dmso)4Cl2]. The complexes are diamagnetic at room temperature. The metal to ligand ratio and the geometry around the ruthenium(II) centres in these complexes have been established with the help of 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR and positive ion electrospray mass spectral studies.
