Abstract
Summary
1. The present study confirmed the group correlation between clinically demonstrable coronary atherosclerosis and abnormally low alpha to beta lipoprotein ratio. 2. Daily administration of 3 g of safflower seed oil and 4 mg of pyridoxine for a period of up to 30 weeks, added to the previously administered lipotropes, resulted in a statistically significant increase of alpha to beta lipoprotein ratio starting at the 18 week period. The trend continued for the 24 and 30 week periods in over 70% of cases. 3. Twenty percent of cases showed lowered total serum cholesterol levels. 4. In view of the potential significance of the observed results, further study is merited.
