Abstract
Summary
(1) Two strains of mice known to differ with respect to their ability to become sensitized to histamine, were found to become highly sensitive to serotonin after the injection of H. pertussis cells. (2) Some sensitivity to serotonin could be detected 16-24 hours after the administration of pertussis. Sensitivity reached its peak by the third to fourth day, and disappeared by the 25th day after pertussis injection. (3) Ability to induce sensitivity to serotonin seems to be characteristic of H. pertussis.
