Summary
The following observations were made on plasma hexosamine levels in the rat: 1) there is an increase during the period of rapid growth, 2) no significant diurnal changes could be demonstrated, 3) the amount of food eaten is important in the maintenance of a normal level, 4) stress increases and fasting lowers the plasma hexosamine level in the normal rat, 5) fasting prevents the expected increase following stress.
