Abstract
Conclusion
We have demonstrated a culture system employing thyroid lobes from mice which over a 24 hr period seem capable of maintaining good function with respect to the transport of inorganic iodide, the formation of labeled iodothyronines, a capacity to increase hormone formation under TSH stimulation and the ability to release hormone and iodide in a dose dependent manner at relatively low TSH concentrations. The system lends itself to a variety of studies in which the capacity to form thyroxine and triiodothyronine in vitro are of the essence.
