Summary
A thin layer chromatographic method has been developed for differentiation of the genera Escherichia, Enterobacter, and Klebsiella based on the amounts of succinic, fumaric, and pyruvic acids formed during fermentative growth. The method employs only a single colony of bacterial cells and can be completed in 4.5 hr.
