Abstract
Summary
Two metabolites of hydromorphone were isolated from the urine of the rabbit. By infrared analyses, thin layer chromatography, β-glucuronidase hydrolysis and ultraviolet spectroscopy, the crystalline metabolites were found to be hydromorphone-3-glucuronide and dihydromorphine-3-glucuronide.
The authors acknowledge the excellent technical assistance of Mrs. Sandra Huse. The hydromorphone (Dilaudid) hydrochloride was generously provided by Dr. A. Bavley, Knoll Pharmaceutical Co., Orange, NJ. Dihydromorphine was provided by Dr. John P. Long of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA.
