Abstract
Summary
Direct evidence is provided of alveolar cell carry-over from day 3 of the first lactation to days 4 and 41 of second lactation in rats which were pregnant during the first lactation. Rats with a nonlactating period prior to the second parturition had fewer alveolar cells carried-over to the second lactation but had a greater proliferation of alveolar cells following the second parturition than did rats without a nonlactating period.
