Abstract
Summary
In normal rabbits given endotoxin, the degree of pyrexia and release of EP are proportional to the dose of endotoxin injected, until very high dosages are reached, at which point hypothermia occurs and the animals die. In leukopenic rabbits the hypo-thermic and lethal effects are evident at much lower dosage. These animals produce no endogenous pyrogen. At the lowest doses tested leukopenic animals had as much fever as normals but did not release EP.
