Abstract
Summary
Hemodynamic and lethal effects of endotoxin in the chicken were studied. It was noted that the unanesthetized bird is highly resistant to endotoxin, all animals surviving intravenous doses up to 40 mg/kg. Systemic arterial hypotension and a slight degree of hemodilution were observed in the anesthetized chicken given 10 mg/kg endotoxin. The possible role of histamine is discussed.
