Abstract
Summary
Two similar strains of virus were recovered from Cercopithecus monkey salivary gland tissue and kidney tissue culture. The agents possessed the biological characteristics of cytomegaloviruses, and shared CF antigens with a human cytomegalovirus. They are unique among cytomegaloviruses in their ability to grow in heterologous (human) tissue cultures. Antibodies were common in Cercopithecus held in captivity but were not found in freshly captured rhesus monkeys.
