Teacher’s Corner: A Note on Interpreting an R 2 Value

Abstract

It is suggested that the standard traditional null hypothesis of ρ² = 0 be reconsidered in favor of ρ² = E(R²). The test of the latter hypothesis is discussed. Also discussed is an effect-size index that is the difference between an adjusted R² and E(R²).
