Abstract
Statistical consultants share many common roles and problems. This article addresses some of the issues faced by the educational statistician working as a faculty member in a university. The university milieu, with its emphasis on research, teaching, and service presents some unique opportunities as well as problems for the statistical consultant. The roles, functions, and responsibilities of the educational statistician are emphasized.
