Abstract
Surveyed were 75 women (22 freshmen, 17 sophomores, 17 juniors, 15 seniors, 2 graduate students, 2 students did not report year in college) attending a Kansas university about demographic characteristics and perceptions of female body-build-behavior stereotypes derived from Lerner's 1969 study of men. Also surveyed were 100 occupations derived from Bose and Rossi's 1984 study of occupational prestige. These women did hold stereotypes about women's body-build and personality. They held stereotypes about the type of body expected in specific occupations. Such stereotypes might limit their choices.
