Abstract
A number of techniques have been utilized to normalize fundamental frequency (F0) data in investigations of F0 variation associated with intonation. While such techniques have proven useful within specific investigations, information which could be relevant to the understanding of the production and perception of intonation is often lost by utilizing these techniques. An alternative method for calculating slope was devised to deal with some of the problems encountered in previous normalization techniques.
