Six arrangements for pushbuttons for keying telephone numbers were tested using 72 Yunnan Province Chinese subjects of both sexes and from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Keying time, errors, preference for and dislike of each design were used as criteria. The results indicate that, while no single design was superior on all the criteria, one design was generally better than the others.
