A survey of 38 volunteer baseball coaches indicated that, although they were experienced coaches and former athletes, their backgrounds did not include formal training in coaching. Coaching styles evolved from observing and working with other coaches. Since most respondents did not feel they were strong motivators, workshops that address this issue and other aspects of coaching are recommended.
