72 novice and kyu Shotokan karateka and 21 of dan grades were given the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Those at dan grades were less trait and less state anxious. Partial correlations controlling for age showed a negative association for years of training and measures of anxiety. Proper interpretation would require longitudinal data.
