A 16-item questionnaire was developed for pre- and postinstructional use in evaluating a semester course in nursing research methods. Factor analysis of the responses from 54 undergraduates yielded the following dimensions: Fear of Failure, Challenge and Relevance, Lack of Interest, and Intrinsic Value. Pre- to postinstructional shifts in the direction of more favorable ratings were found on all factors. The utility of preinstructional evaluation as a baseline measure was addressed.
