Abstract
Perceptions of 330 middle-school students based on scaled responses to 50 silhouette pictures in the Me Scale clearly identified the high positive regard of the students for individual differences among students and the intense concern for personal social development in the school setting. 42 teachers of the middle-school students scaled 62 statements about instruction, students' characteristics, and program. Similar to students' perceptions, teachers rated the respect for individual differences of students and the personal social development of the students at this age level to be the primary emphasis in teacher-student interaction.
