The Eysenck Personality Inventory was given to 456 adult runners of varying ability, approximately 71% males and 29% females. The return rate was 71%. The final number was 310, and 288 after questionnaires with Lie scores over 5 were excluded. Runners were much more introverted than the college norm group, but similar on extraversion to an adult industrial workers' norm group. This finding may be attributed to age differences. Female runners were significantly more extraverted than the male runners, the male runners tended toward higher neuroticism scores than did the male industrial workers, and the female runners had significantly higher neuroticism scores than did the female industrial workers.
