To test the hypothesis that pairs and reflections on a Rorschach protocol are related to self-esteem, the Egocentricity Indices (3r + 2/R) of 64 children were correlated with factors generated by two self-report measures of self-esteem. No significant relationships emerged for any of the variables. Similarly, there were no significant differences when the sample was divided between those with normal and abnormal indices. It was concluded that the Egocentricity Index may be more related to an unconscious process of self-focus than to conscious feelings of self-worth.
