A systematic replication employed 14 naive subjects in the semantic rating of 50 affective words. Mean ratings from two groups correlated very strongly, e.g., .95, .93, with those previously produced by experienced subjects, and factor analyses of naive ratings validated the importance (80% of total variance) of Pleasure and Arousal as dimensions of affect. A third “ghost” (9% of total variance) factor was shown to be less predictive as well as less stable
