This paper demonstrates empirically that the relative strength of an individual differences variable as a moderator of the relationship between attitude similarity and interpersonal attraction in first encounters may be associated with the level of similarity to which subjects are exposed. The results help explain inconsistencies in previous research and suggest methodological changes for the future.
