There are several defensible procedures for obtaining information on the reliability and validity of questionnaire items. These procedures are useful but insufficient in determining the psychometric characteristics of single questions. Greater attention should be paid to methods of assessing the veridicality of responses from the viewpoint of the respondent and that of objective reality.
