Abstract
This study had two purposes: (a) to determine if there was significant variance in reaction time to the alphabetic characters and three punctuation marks among three groups of typists (ns = 10) who were grouped according to typewriting rate; (b) to determine the relationship between the mean reaction time of skilled typists to the alphabetic characters and three punctuation marks and the frequency of their appearance in printed matter. It was concluded that reaction time to all characters decreased as typewriting rate increased and that reaction time was significantly related to frequency of the appearance of the letters in printed matter.
