Abstract
Males (about 3,400) and females (about 960) were asked to estimate confidence and abilities in an upcoming training program and in performing the task for which they were to be trained. Based on prior research it was hypothesized that due to the masculine nature of the task and training (Army Rifle Marksmanship) women would have lower confidence estimates than men. Results tend to confirm this hypothesis. Implications are discussed and related to use of previously attained knowledge by both males and females.
