Abstract
The present study was done to determine the validity of the Imitation of Gestures Technique as a measure of visual-motor functioning for preschoolers. Contrary to the paper-and-pencil techniques utilized by most tests of visual-motor functioning, this test requires the child to reproduce arm, hand, and finger gestures demonstrated by the examiner. The performance of 295 preschoolers on the test was correlated with age and scores from the Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration. Results support the potential of this new test as a measure of visual-motor functioning.
