Group discussions (n = 210) were held in rooms of high or low spatial density. In high-density settings, subjects (n = 110) perceived the discussions as less beneficial and cooperative, but density did not affect subjects' perception of their own contribution to the groups. Subjects (n = 107) who were depersonalized found the groups more friendly and the task less frustrating than their personalized counterparts (n = 103).
